NRCan Registered Energy Advisor – Nanaimo, BC
We are currently seeking a Registered Energy Advisor (REA), certified with Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), to join our team based in Nanaimo, BC. This is a full-time, permanentposition offering the opportunity to work independently while supporting energy efficiency initiatives in both new and existing residential homes.
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing on-site energy assessments across the region and must be comfortable with daily travel within the area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct EnerGuide Version 15 residential energy assessments in accordance with NRCan standards.
- Perform blower door tests, energy modeling, and identify opportunities for energy efficiency improvements.
- Provide clear, professional recommendations to homeowners, builders, and other stakeholders.
- Complete STEP Code modeling and documentation for new construction.
- Participate in building envelope consulting, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
Additional Skills (Considered an Asset):
- Residential mechanical design experience.
- HVAC and plumbing design knowledge for commercial/industrial buildings.
- Experience with NECB and energy code compliance modeling.
- Familiarity with ASHRAE energy audits.
- Background in renewable energy system design.
- Interest or experience in business development or client relations.
Qualifications:
- NRCan Registered Energy Advisor (active certification required).
- Strong technical, analytical, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage your schedule effectively.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and construction documents.
- Solid understanding of building science and the house-as-a-system concept.
- Knowledge of residential construction, including insulation, air/vapor barriers, windows/doors, HVAC systems, and energy-efficient building practices.
- Strong math and computer skills, especially in geometry and basic modeling tools.
- Valid driver’s license, a reliable vehicle, and a clean driving record.
- Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check.
