The exam has 150 multiple choice questions about communication & computer skills; numeracy; construction & renovation of low-rise housing; safety considerations; building envelope; heating, ventilation & air conditioning; building science principles; and house-as-a-system, with a passing mark of 75% or higher. Participants have 3 hours max. either online or at a recognized exam centre approved by NRCan.

The exam has 150 multiple choice questions testing knowledge of EnerGuide Rating System; knowledge of the HOT2000 Modelling; ability to administer and deliver the EnerGuide Rating System; ability to perform general quality assurance on house files under the EnerGuide Rating System Version 15, with a passing mark of 75% or higher. Participants have 3 hours max. either online or at a recognized exam centre approved by NRCan.

Secure liability insurance (CACEA members also need errors & omissions)
Affiliate with a Service Organization (SO) for support, QA and file processing (can be done at the start of your journey)
Source equipment if required, e.g., laptop, blower door kit, ladder

SOs submit the EA’s paperwork to NRCan for approval and providing the EA registration number. The EA number is linked to an SO and EAs can have multiple EA numbers. Once affiliated with an SO and fully registered with NRCan, candidates will then be able to request the complete EnerGuide Rating System Energy Advisor Package and official report generator.
