Time Commitment
- Permanent full-time position (37.5 hours per week, weekdays).
Compensation
- $85,000–$95,000 annually plus benefits.
- Four weeks of vacation, plus time off between Christmas and New Year’s.
Location & Travel
- Remote role; candidates provide their own office space. A laptop and necessary work equipment will be supplied by HPSC.
- Occasional travel required for workshops, training, and meetings (typically in Metro Vancouver).
What you’ll do
The Senior Manager of Operations will support the small but productive team at the HPSC. The role is largely operations and people management focused but includes opportunities to support and contribute to strategic planning and programming.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Operations
- Ensures that technology systems, software, hardware, training, and digital security practices meet organizational needs.
- Manages relationships with external service providers for IT, training, and other operational needs.
- Ensures that the HPSC’s WorksafeBC account is active and in good standing and that the organization has adequate insurance.
Financial Management
- Partners with the Executive Director on budgeting and financial strategy.
- Manages day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit cards, and funder invoices, providing support and direction to the external bookkeeper as needed.
- Works with the Executive Director to ensure that funding contract requirements, including reporting, is adhered to.
- Partners with the Executive Director on grant applications and administration, with a focus on budgeting and financial reporting.
People Management
- Manages a team of (currently) four direct reports.
- Develops goals and workplans with direct reports, in alignment with the HPSC’s strategic plan, and conducts annual evaluations.
- Creates a positive work environment, providing opportunities for growth and timely feedback.
- Supports staff to identify and action appropriate professional development opportunities.
- Provides day-to-day guidance and support to staff as needed.
Strategic Planning and Program Oversight
- Participates in organizational strategic planning with the Executive Director and Manager of Industry Engagement.
- Provides strategic oversight for the Home Performance Contractor Network (HPCN) in collaboration with the Executive Director and Program Manager.
- Develops and maintains strong working relationships with program partners of the HPCN.
- Prepares reports for the Board of Directors and program partners, in collaboration with the Program Manager, to provide updates on the HPCN.
Who you are
- 10–12 years of progressive experience in operations, finance, or people management. Direct industry experience is an advantage, but we recognize that operational excellence and leadership skills gained in other sectors can be equally valuable.
- Bachelor’s degree in non-profit management, business administration, operations management, or a similar field; or an equivalent combination of education and job experience.
- 5+ years of experience managing budgets and/or organizational finances, ideally in a non-profit or public sector environment.
- Experience managing funding contracts and/or supporting grant proposals is an asset.
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills related to operational decisions.
- Strong people management abilities with 3+ years’ experience supervising or managing direct reports.
- Excellent critical thinking skills; program management and/or strategic planning experience is an asset.
- Skilled at facilitating constructive dialogue and managing conflict with professionalism and empathy, helping contractors, partners, and team members move toward positive and productive outcomes.
- Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly organized and detail oriented.
- Strong professional aptitude for technology including the ability to evaluate and use new technologies.
- Legally authorized to work in Canada
