DESCRIPTION:Solar is still treated as an electrical add-on\, bolted on long after the decisions that determine whether it will work have already been made. Roof geometry\, membrane and structural anchoring\, service panel capacity\, and the placement of plumbing stacks and roof vents all shape what is actually possible\, and all of them are settled at the design stage. This session sets out the constraints\, the avoidable blunders and the questions Energy Advisors should be raising early with builders and homeowners\, in both new construction and retrofits. DESCRIPTION:Most Energy Advisors read a window label for two numbers: U‑value and solar heat gain coefficient. There is more on that label\, and more behind it\, than most realise. \nThis session covers what changed in NAFS 2022 and how it flows into the 2025 code — the separate air infiltration levels are gone\, and Article 9.36.2.7 introduces a cap on solar heat gain that varies by region — along with the reasoning advisors will need when a building official asks. It then turns to the labels themselves: how a proper label is built\, what a fraudulent one looks like\, and what producing them involves for manufacturers.
