SUMMARY:CSA F280-12 DHL/DHG Analysis: Whole-House and Room-by-Room Approach (Pilot Training)
DESCRIPTION:This is a pilot training open to invited participants only (a registration code will be required during registration). \nREAs CAN STEP INTO THE HEAT PUMP GAME!  \nREAs delivering the EnerGuide Rating System (ERS) and other HOT2000 modelers will gain the ability to perform precise room-by-room heat loss and heat gain calculations for use in both the retrofit and new construction contexts. Using verified software\, EAs and other HOT2000 modelers can provide key inputs to the sizing of heating and cooling equipment primarily based on data collected during home energy evaluations\, with minimal additional information to be collected. \nUpon completing this course\, EAs and other HOT2000 modellers will be able to offer this service to homeowners and contractors\, providing essential calculations that HVAC professionals can use to size heat pumps accurately. Please note: This course does not cover air distribution design and does not enable EAs and other HOT2000 modellers to select specific heat pumps or make direct sizing recommendations. \nInstructor and CACEA member Cooper Le MEA\, Sr. Manager – Production and Operations at 4 Elements Integrated Design Ltd.\, will guide the group through the whole-house and room-by-room F280 processes. At the end of the course\, participants will: \n\nUnderstand why heat loss and gain calculations are needed for existing and new homes.\nUnderstand important definitions and concepts used in heat loss and gain calculations.\nUnderstand the whole‐house and room-by-room heat loss and gain calculation principles and content.\nRecognize the similarities and differences between the data used for HOT2000 energy simulation and CSA F280 whole‐house and room-by-room heat loss and gain calculations.\nFamiliarize with verified software that can use HOT2000 inputs through a case study. \n\nREGISTRATION \nCRITERIA FOR REAs: \n\nA “Full” category CACEA member OR a non-CACEA member REA who completed D&E files and modelled 15 homes onsite tested under an NRCan program (ERS\, EnergyStar\, R2000 or NetZero – D&E; P&N) which is SO validated OR put forward by CACEA Full Member in good standing.\nNON-MEMBER REQUIREMENTS: $1 million Errors and Omissions Insurance and a signed SO confirmation letter (annually). (USE THIS LETTER ) Must upload the proof of coverage and letter to the registration form. \n\nCRITERIA FOR OTHER HOT2000 MODELLERS: \n\n1 full year of HOT2000 modelling.\n$1 million Errors and Omissions Insurance. Must upload the proof of coverage to the registration form. \n\nADDITIONAL COURSE INFORMATION: \n\nParticipants will work through a case study and complete an independent exercise using the Volta SNAP tool.\nUse a full-size monitor\, preferably two. Working primarily from an iPad or laptop monitor is not ideal).\nEnsure good connectivity and use a headset or quality external mic to reduce feedback or echoes.\nPrinting of certain course materials in advance is recommended – details will be provided closer to the event. \n\nREGISTRATION FEES \nCACEA Members: $25.00 + tax\nNon-members: $25.00 + tax  \nCancellation Policy: Cancellations will be accepted up to April 6\, 2026. Refunds will not be issued for cancellations after April 6\, 2026. \nCECs =  12 (full program completion required). Partial CECs will not be issued.  \nNOTE: This course will be delivered in the Eastern time zone. \nSuccessful participants will receive a Certificate of Completion\, and CACEA members will be listed on CACEA’s website.

SUMMARY:Residential Duct Air Flow Measurement: Assessing the impact of air flow on ASHP sizing
DESCRIPTION:Duct capacity is often a limiting factor in sizing retrofit heat pumps\, and contractors often size heat pumps based on the existing air conditioner\, resulting in under-sized equipment. A simple 15-minute test can provide definitive air flow capacity of a duct system\, contributing to a proper sized heat pump and avoiding poor system performance—such as noise problems due to restrictive ductwork. Energy Advisors (EA) can easily add this procedure to the scope of an Energy Evaluation. \nThis training will instruct EAs on how to evaluate the airflow capacity of duct systems in homes where the distribution system is not being changed and the primary retrofit measure is the replacement of heating and cooling equipment. In conjunction with other considerations—such as the CSA F280-12 Heat Loss/Heat Gain value—this is a preliminary assessment to provide the homeowner and their HVAC Contractor with data that will help the contractor select the largest ASHP based on existing ductwork. Please note: This course does not enable EAs and other HOT2000 modelers to select specific heat pumps or make direct sizing recommendations. The Contractor is ultimately responsible for equipment selection. \nInstructor and CACEA member Mark Rosen MEA\, Director\, Building Science\, Building Knowledge Canada and a well-known professional architect\, trainer\, and consultant who is passionate about buildings that perform exceptionally well.
